The world's oldest recorded tree is a 9,550 year old spruce in the Dalarna province of Sweden. The spruce tree has shown to be a tenacious survivor that has endured by growing between erect trees and smaller bushes in pace with the dramatic climate changes over time.

LED cu ratan

aura' by béatrice durandard + océane delain was born from the desire to freshen the
image of traditional basketry and integrate into the home using in a new way.

the craftsmanship, which has existed for thousands of years is used with LED sources
to create a collection of hanging and wall mounted lamps. strands of rattan are replaced
with flexible strips of LED lights during the weaving process, working them directly
into the structure of the object.

aura won first price in 'adream', a european architecture and design contest. a grant was
given to the two french designers to further develop and manufacture the product. the first
prototypes are on currently on exhibit at espace saint-valentin in lausanne, switzerland
until march 13, 2011.

The interiors are spaciously appointed with extra-wide entrances, for accommodating better passenger flow, large electronic displays for system maps, and lighting that's placed at soothing intervals, rather than in blaring, monolithic banks. The electronics and mechanics cabinets have also been removed from the actual cabin walls -- so that the interior space is as spacious as possible. And finally, you'll also notice that the handholds are lit from above and shaped like tree branches -- a symbol, the designers say, of the subway cars green ambitions.

Those green bonafides primarily come in the form of the carriage's aluminum, "weight-optimized" chassis, which is significantly lighter than the average traincar, reducing its energy consumption. And... wait for it... the carriages are expected to be 97.5% recyclable as well.

Rapidly fabbed not mass produced house

 the government of spain's ministry of
housing and the department of energy of the USA have teamed up to host europe's first
solar decathlon in barcelona. with the objective of achieving the cheapest solar home
in the world, the institute for advanced architecture of catalonia (IAAC) has designed and
fabricated the 'fab lab house' as their official entry into the competition. the 75 m2 house
is suitable for a family of 4 and the use of light wood as its main structural component makes it possible to assemble the house in fifteen days.
